The objective of the project was to stabilize the east wall of the St. Therese City Hall, facing the parking lot, through demolition and re-construction.
The goal of the work was to resolve the bowing of the masonry cladding, a major defect of the structure first identified in a 2008 study. To correct these problems, it was necessary to take the following measures: stabilize the band of windows and build a new structure independent of the exterior wall so as not to affect the seismic design of the structure. Since the stair at the rear of the building is an important element for circulation and is also visible from the parking lot and from St. Louis Street, the fa├žade was reconstructed with a translucent curtain wall system to create an architectural element that provides visual animation at the rear of the building and allow light into the interior without affecting the energy efficiency performance.
