The Museum of Civilization of Quebec, more than 15 000 square metres in area, is located in the heart of Old Quebec close to Place Royale, on the river's bank in a sector where the buildings occupy almost 100% of their respective lots. This design principle was respected in the use of the site. The public thoroughfares that surround and provide access to the site are delineated by the mass of the building as the construction limit corresponds to the property line.
Winner of a provincial architecture competition, this project is known for its thoughtful integration of its large volume into the historic neighbourhood, as well as its strong visibility while respecting the scale of the iconic surroundings that includes Place Royale.
