In conjunction with a major renovation of the interiors, Ivanhoe Cambridge elected to update the exterior of with the objective of repositioning the mall within Montreal's south shore retail market. DMA was hired to study the existing visibility of the mall, the conformity to the applicable and to develop a plan for the exterior signage to improve the visibility of the mall and to update its image.
DMA proposed a continuous form that framed the entrances in a clear and contemporary style that integrates a roof and a bench and projects to the exterior the axis of the interior corridors. The flexibility of this design made it possible to adapt the proportions of the form to the particularities of each entrance as well as the traffic flow. Programmable LED lighting is built into the soffit and the framing, allowing the light to be projected onto the interior wall.
Signage at the urban scale was achieved by a structure that integrates the graphic perforations used on the entrance to a grandiose scale. The perforation pattern was also repeated on street signs, in order to harmonize the architectural signature.
